In order to set up a new website and hosting, several steps must be taken. In simplified format, they are as follows:
1) It is first necessary to have a web site address, also known as a URL or domain name. Typically, the www.yourwebsitename.com format is used. Other extensions are used for different types of organizations: .org, .edu, .gov, .info and .biz are a few of the more common ones. It is not difficult to register a URL, but often many names are already in use and you may not be able to get your first choice.
2) Determine the type/size of hosting account package and sign appropriate hosting contract. Upon receipt of payment, an account is set up for domain to be hosted.
3) Change the DNS information and technical contact information on all domain names to be hosted. This Process depends on individual registrars.
4) Either an existing website is uploaded to the domain, or a temporary "bookmark" page is created on behalf of the client.
5) If website design services are also required, a contract must be signed specifiying a particular web package
or a custom designed package, optional features, and design deadline, if any. Work is started upon receipt of payment, as specified in contract.
The website is designed and programmed in a way that web browsers can interpret.
